Event Description This 2-day course aims to teach people the basic style of Motivational Interviewing and create curiosity to develop these valuable skills in the workplace. Motivational Interviewing underpins the principles of Signs of Safety. By the end of 2 days participants will feel able to start using aspects of the approach in their work. Participants will need to consider how they develop proficiency in Motivational Interviewing following the training.

The course uses a range of teaching methods to suit all learning styles, including demonstrations, video/audio clips, didactic presentation, visual imagery, discussion and practice exercises. Participants will be invited to take part in short practice exercises but will not be asked to role play service users.

By the end of the event, participants will have had the opportunity to learn
about and explore: -

• Understand the fundamental ‘spirit' of Motivational Interviewing

• Be aware of the four processes of Motivational Interviewing

• Strengthen empathic counselling skills (OARS)

• Understand the guiding aspects of Motivational Interviewing

• Directly experience MI in a protective environment

• Be aware of the evidence base supporting the use of Motivational

Event Charges Notes Available for all Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole practitioners at the subsidised rate of £20, who work with children, young people and their families to improve their outcomes. Full cost £95 Invoices:Organisations will be invoiced for payment after the event has run. Settings other than BCP settings must provide a purchase order number, centre cost code (if NHS) and the invoice contact name and address.
