Event Description A one day course to help practitioners develop knowledge around issues of Drug and Alcohol misuse and to build confidence when working with children, young people and their families where this is an issue; by:-

• Increasing understanding of drug and alcohol use and why people
use substances.
• Understanding the signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol misuse.
• What's happening locally with drug and alcohol misuse.
• Gain a greater understanding of the Bournemouth Recovery Treatment
system for drugs and alcohol (including family support provision)
• Learn about some of tools / techniques used to establish possible drug
and alcohol problems.

Available for all Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole practitioners at the subsidised rate, who work with children, young people and their families to improve their outcomes: Including Private, Voluntary and Independent sector, Schools, Health and Local Authority staff.

Additional Support: If you have any specific learning or physical needs or require additional support to enable you to engage with this programme please describe your need and how we can assist you in the special requirements box when you book. With sufficient advance notice, learning materials can be tailored to suit particular needs and support can be given in test conditions.

All cancellations MUST be made using CPD online and MUST be received 10 working days prior to the event. Please ensure that the reason for the cancellation is clearly stated. No other forms of cancellation are accepted. 
Event Outcomes By the end of the Event, participants will have had the opportunity to learn about and explore:-
• Recognise the indications of substance use and refer to specialists.
• Carry out screening and referral processes;
• use the Drug Use Screening Tool DUST (when working with young
• understand the Bournemouth Recovery Treatment system (when
working with adults)
• Support individuals and their families around drug and alcohol
• Assess and act on risk of danger to people misusing substances.
• Making referrals appropriately to agencies and services.

Course Cost £ 30 
Event Charges Notes Available for all Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole practitioners at the subsidised rate of £10, who work with children, young people and their families to improve their outcomes.
