Event Description This is a 2 day course, the skills and techniques are suitable for use with children and young people over the age of 8 years.

The Mental Health First Aid course is designed to enable practitioners to understand about young people's emotional and mental health.

It provides participants with a simple five basic steps approach to providing support, ALGEE.
• Ask, assess, act.
• Listen non-judgementally
• Give reassurance and information
• Enable the young person to get appropriate professional help
• Encourage self-help strategies.

The training has a clear focus on issues faced by young people today and also teaches the importance of promoting wellbeing and protective factors.

Available for all Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole practitioners at the subsidised rate, who work with children, young people and their families to improve their outcomes: Including Private, Voluntary and Independent sector, Schools, Health and Local Authority staff.

Subsidised Cost: £20
Full cost: £100 Neighbouring Authorities(Subsidised by the BCP Council Workforce Development Programme
(spare spaces can be offered to practitioners from neighbouring Authorities who work with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole children, young people and their families at the full cost of £100)

Invoices:
Organisations will be invoiced for payment after the event has run. Settings
other than BCP Childcare settings must provide a purchase order number, centre cost code (if NHS) and the invoice contact name and address.

All cancellations MUST be made using CPD online and MUST be received ten working days prior to the event. Please ensure that the reason for the cancellation is clearly stated. No other forms of cancellation are accepted.

Certificates – attendance certificates can be downloaded from CPD online after the register has been marked and attendance verified. This does not replace any qualification or other accredited certificate.

Additional Support: If you have any specific learning or physical needs or require additional support to enable you to engage with this programme please describe your need and how we can assist you in the special requirements box when you book. With sufficient advance notice,learning materials can be tailored to suit particular needs and support can be given in test conditions.

• Reduce the stigma of mental health issues.
